How hot
your patio gets.

Surface heat is a real concern in Phoenix. Concrete and dark stone can get hot enough to burn bare feet. We model surface temperatures for the materials we install most, under conditions you set: air temperature, sun exposure, and time of day. Tap two cards to compare side by side.

What this
actually means.

Surfaces above roughly 130°F can burn bare feet in seconds. Concrete and dark stone in full afternoon sun can get there. So can dark flagstone.

This is why we lean toward light-colored, dense materials for Arizona pool decks, such as travertine, limestone, and cantera gris. Not because they're trendier, but because they stay cooler under the same sun, so everyone can walk around the pool barefoot.

Numbers above are modeled from solar absorptivity (α), thermal mass, and surface emissivity for each material at Arizona summer conditions. They're indicative, not lab-precise.
